The language of painting is essentially abstract
In my practise representational as well as abstract works emerge simultaneously. Both approaches inform each other. If I am working from an image – a house, a waterscene or a flower- I want to convey a strong abstract quality to the work. And if I am working abstractly visual memories guide me, which will determine the choice of the color palette and the subject matter. I find it very exciting to switch between those approaches. In the end the painterly quality is what counts.
